Pašman, the slow island

Pašman sits in the Zadar archipelago, joined to Ugljan by a bridge and a short ferry ride from the mainland. It's an island of clear water, pine forest, olive groves and small Dalmatian villages, without the crowds of the better-known islands.

Neviđane is on the island's eastern side. It has a working port, a restaurant serving fresh seafood and Dalmatian dishes, and a small gallery.

The beach

The village beach is a short walk from the house. The water is clear and shallow, good for swimming and snorkelling, and it's rarely busy.

Boat trips

Three operators leave from the village port: full days through Kornati National Park, island hopping to Dugi Otok and Sakarun beach, and early-morning or sunset fishing trips with local fishermen. We're happy to book them for you.

Cycling

One road runs the length of the island, with sea on both sides and olive groves and pine forest in between. It's mostly gentle, with a few hills inland. You can hire bikes locally.

Tkon and the ferry

Tkon, 10 km south at the tip of the island, is Pašman's main village and its ferry port, and it has the nearest supermarket. Ferries cross to Biograd na Moru in about 25 minutes.

Day trips

By boat from the village port

  • Kornati National Park Full day

A maze of bare limestone islands, cliffs and bays out in the open sea. Excursion boats leave from Neviđane and usually stop for swimming and lunch.

  • Telašćica Nature Park Full day, often combined with Kornati

A long sheltered bay on Dugi Otok, sea cliffs on the outer side and the saltwater lake Mir, where you can swim.

  • Dugi Otok and Sakarun beach Full day

Island hopping to Dugi Otok's long beach of white sand and fine pebbles, with shallow turquoise water.

By car, via the ferry to Biograd

  • Zadar About 30 min from Biograd, or take the ferry from Ugljan

Roman forum, the Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun on the waterfront, and the sunset Alfred Hitchcock is said to have called the most beautiful in the world.

  • Vransko Lake Nature Park About 15 min from Biograd

Croatia's largest natural lake and a bird reserve, with a flat cycling and walking path along the shore.

  • Krka National Park About 1 hour from Biograd

Waterfalls and travertine pools on the Krka river, seen from wooden walkways. Go early in summer.

  • Šibenik About 50 min from Biograd

A stone old town of steep lanes, with the Cathedral of St James, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

  • Paklenica National Park About 1 h 15 min from Biograd

Two deep limestone canyons on the slopes of Velebit, with marked hiking trails and climbing routes.

  • Plitvice Lakes National Park About 2 h 30 min from Biograd, a long day

Sixteen terraced lakes joined by waterfalls, Croatia's best-known national park.

For ferry times see Jadrolinija, and for events on the island the Pašman tourist board. We're happy to help you plan any of these.
